Melodeon Workshop

The Elephant and Castle, White Hill, LEWES

Building arrangements of traditional tunes on the D/G melodeon to make full use of the many sounds and textures possible on the instrument, both as a solo instrument and as part of a band. This will be a mixed ability workshop for everyone apart from complete beginners - a minimum of a 2 row melodeon in D/G is needed, but 2 ½ row and 3 row instruments in these keys are fine. If anyone wants to bring a one-row in D/G or another instrument for the band part then that would be splendid.

In the morning session we will play over the tunes which will be sent a few weeks in advance and explore many of the possible approaches we can take to create a solo melodeon arrangement using them, including alternative chords on the left hand, ornamentation and syncopation.

We will continue to develop and finish the solo arrangement in the second session after lunch.

In the final session we will become a band of melodeons, and building on our original arrangement, we will create different parts for sections of instruments to play.
